I awoke to a note on Roman’s side of the bed saying he was visiting with Jake and Nancy this morning. Last night we talked about keeping my car and his boxes here until things blew over. We thought it was best to get a different vehicle just to be on the safe side.

I went into the kitchen and rummaged through the cabinets but came to an abrupt halt when I saw a package of small individual boxes of cereal. My favorite was staring me in the face. I tore open the plastic and grabbed the box of Lucky Charms.

I quickly found a bowl and spoon and poured some milk on top of the cereal. I sat on a chair at the small kitchenette table, and pulled my legs up. I rested the bowl on top of my knees and savored the sweet smell of my breakfast.

Roman came in and looked around until he found me; when he did, a smile spread across his face.

“So, what did Jake & Nancy think about holding onto our things?” I asked, then ate a spoonful of food. I hoped they didn't feel like they were put on the spot. Sure, boxes being stored didn't seem like too much of an inconvenience, but my car? I wondered if we overstepped their generosity.

Roman came over and sat next to me. “They think it’s a good idea, too. He’ll throw a tarp over the car while it’s being stored. He’s going to take me to the local car dealership which has maybe a dozen vehicles for sale. I don’t think we are going to have much of a choice on what we get.”

Roman’s eyebrows stitched together as he watched me. “What are you doing?”

Bewildered, I looked up, “Eating.”

“No, why are you separating the cereal.” Roman eyed my bowl.

“I eat the crunchy ones first and save all of the marshmallows for last. Don’t you? Doesn’t everyone?” I pushed more of the sweet morsels aside in my bowl.

Roman laughed. I loved the way his eyes lit up when he did.

“No, but it’s endearing that you do. Jake is going to take me to the dealership in a few minutes, but I think you should stay here,” he said, and looked at me, questioningly.

“Why?” I tried to think of a reason.

“Because, as Jake said, you do stand out, especially here in the sticks,” Roman added, then winked at me.

I’m not happy about his or Jake’s statement. “Should I cut my hair?”

“No.” Roman ran his fingers through my long golden locks. “I love your hair this way. When we need to we can put it up, like we did the day we picked up your car. I just don’t want to take any chances. We have to stop by the bank before I can get our new ride.”

“I’m going to pull the money out of an emergency account I set up years ago. There is no way the Fallen can track that one, I set it up under an alias. We will stay here for a couple of more days, then I think we need to move again.
